What is the benefit of DSSS?

Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum is a modulation technique that spreads the modulated signal so it occupies a larger bandwidth. This is performed by multiplying with a spreading code and then at the receiver, applying a de-spreading code.

The de-spreading code compresses the signal to its original bandwidth. As the spreaded signal now occupies a larger bandwidth, it appears as noise making it more resistant to interference.
